Laurel Denton spent her early years in the countryside of the central coast of California. Much of her painting is influenced by the Pacific Ocean and the motion of being underwater as well as the palate of central California.
She studied art and design in San Francisco where she fell in love with animation, particularly the short art film types that are shown in the various festivals. This study of motion design, character design as well as theater has been what all her later character work is based on.
After finishing college, she moved to Los Angeles where she has worked for 30 years as an artist practicing in a variety of fields. Projects have included children's book illustration, event design, painting for interior designers, painting backdrops for events and most recently, sculpting characters.
As a working artist, she always seeks new opportunities to grow and learn. You may be surprised to find out what she'll be up to next!
